Minor Miscalculations CH-1
A/N: Alright here's my first attempt at a fanfiction for better or worse. As one may soon see, there is a distinct similarity (in many extra-situational aspects) to what I consider one of the best Pokémon based fanfictions on this site (Yes, I did talk to Rusty Raccoon). In truth, that particular work stuck me with such force that I was compelled to take pen to paper (or in this case, fingers to keyboard) and write my own in a similar, believable universe (perhaps even the same universe altogether). This work has not been edited, so I ask anyone reading it that takes note of any error to let me know so I can fix it. It is my only hope that this work will someday be of comparative quality to the one which inspired it. As you can tell, this work will have many, many chapters of about this length. My goal is about twenty. Please, please, comment on this, as it is my first attempt at fanfiction! I would really like to get better, but I can't do it without a bit of help!

Call me Pip. I'm 27, an Aquarian Fire Rabbit, and female.

I've been drawing and writing for years now; still mostly as a hobby/stress-relief thing. I started out digital drawing on PaintBBS (when I first discovered oekaki) but now mainly rely on offline programs such as Pixelmator. I also write prose and poetry when the mood strikes.
My tablet stylus has completely vanished off the face of the earth.

I sat down the other day to work on Phantom Child and found every single thing I needed (tablet, USB cord, etc) except for the stylus. There is nothing more frustrating than having the time and motivation to work on digital art only to find yourself unable through other means.

Unless it's hiding at the boyfriend's place, it's gone forever. I've been racking my brains so hard about the last time I used it or moved it. I may have packed it in my laptop bag and taken it down to my bf's last time we played Diablo III. Perhaps it fell out. But I have already done a search there, and as of now have gone through my own entire place (which isn't too large anyway) with a fine toothed comb to no avail.

ARGH. Guess I should just bite the bullet and work on other creative stuff which doesn't need a tablet.

Probably it'll be something after November - doing NaNo this year again and I've been giving up each successive year past that I'm doubly determined to get to 50K this year. So most of my free time until December I'm writing rather than drawing. But time flies, of course. Got a sweet new art app for my ipad which I can't wait to get stuck into. :)

Just wanted to thank you for the fave!

Also, since I'm currently focusing on music, I was wondering if you'd be interested in supporting me in that endeavor of mine?

If you are, I can link you to where you can find that stuff!

Sorry I took so long to respond - been having serious net speed/dropout issues over the past month.

That aside, I like the opening introduction - must admit to having a real soft spot for guitar plucking and the chord progression you have going there (and which is later extended really nicely which I'll get to). When the piano and vocals come in there seems to be a bit of uneven tempi; the piano is coming in just a fraction early for example when you begin the rap part. Unfortunately this means when the drum pattern joins it is also just a bit unmatched to the beat. Assuming you used a computer program which acts similarly to Audacity or GarageBand to layer all the parts together, it's hopefully just a 'zoom in and click-drag' to find the proper position where all the beats align. Some programs are more helpful than others with this sort of thing, some even provide a click-track you can play through headphones.

You have a nice rich vocal tone in both singing and speaking :) when it comes to singing, sometimes enunciation feels and is heard a lot differently to our speaking voices so even though it'd sound strange for us to spit out each consonant and say our vowels with a proper British accent, by the time our voices have changed with our singing tone it actually turns out sounding fine. Otherwise, sometimes the consonants can get a little buried; whereas during the rap things do end up a little clearer.

0:53 is lovely and so wistful with the piano motif up top, and the whispering vocals behind the main vocals at around the 1:36 mark is a nice touch, blends really well. Try and keep a clear idea of what the vocal melody is doing and have the note already playing in your head for a clean entry. I think if you put a little more emotion into the refrain "can't go on like this" it'll add some extra oomph, just the miniest (haha, I know that's not a word) upward slide perhaps into the "Can't" from G# to the A instead of where it is at sort of at the halfway mark at the moment.

The lyrics are really nice as well. The breaths at the end of the song harking back to the first passage... hah, I see what you did there. Anyway, I hope this helps :) keep writing, keep singing!
